| The MPC Calculator is based on the reference data provided
in Tim Rudman's book The
Photographer's Master Printing Course(ISBN
1-84000-944-6)
It has been developed primarily as the first step in
providing interactive content on the site and largely as a C#
familiarisation exercise. It is a little restricted in terms of
deployability and probably will only work well in Internet Explorer. The
next tool will be developed specifically with wider deployability in
mind and this calculator may be retro-fitted then - so keep an eye-out
here.
The calculator operates simply:
- Yellow boxes allow
for entry of values
- The simple volumetric. mass and temperature conversions happen
immediately and the appropriate values are updated when any
simple-conversion entry is made.
- Green boxes show
results that depend on several inputs and these are only calculated
once the 'Calculate' button (
)
has been selected.
- The 'Clear' button (
resets
all values to the defaults.
The functions provided by the calculator are:
- Calculate new exposure time from a given exposure
time for a given exposure shift expressed in 'stops', or part
thereof (e.g. 60s + 1.5stops = approx 170s)
- Calculate the required exposure when the
enlargement changes given the current exposure the current width or
height and new width or height after the change in enlargement.
- Perform volumetric, mass and temperature conversion
between metric, UK Imperial and US Imperial for: milliliters
and fluid ounces; Liters and gallons; Grams, grains and ounces;
Degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit.
- Calculate required quantities of stock and water
for a given '1+' dilution and desired solution quantity.
- Calculate the numbers of parts of two stock
solutions at different percentage strengths in order to mix a
working solution at a given strength.
- Look-up the Y and M settings on various enlarger to
achieve a given grade on Ilford or Kodak Multigrade papers.
