Sharing this planet earth

If I should measure out my life
by friends and not by tears
Then I should measure out my life
by days and not by years
And even though the days go by
I rarely stop to count
For every day that tumbles by
Makes me want to turn about
To catch another glimpse of you
As you roam around

If I should measure out my life
By love and not by hate
Then I should measure out my life
By hours and not by days
And for every minute that ticks by
I find I think out loud
For every moment that slips by
I think of only you
Thinking that you think of me
I wonder if you do

I need to know that you will treat me right -
If we’re going share this planet tonight

As the tiger needs the tall, tall grass
The wolf-hound needs the pack
As an alley needs an alley cat
The sewer needs the rat
And as the river needs the open sea
I hope that you need me

If I should measure out my life
by friends and not by tears
Then I should measure out my life
by days and not by years
But every day would be just like
The day that I was born
For every day would just be like
A day in paradise
Parading round this earthly globe
And sharing it’s delights.

I need to know that you will treat me right -
If we’re going share
this planet tonight
