Identity Poetry

It's Not You, It's Me

You have a right to act this way
To say those things you like to say
To watch TV to hate the freaks
To hold unqualified beliefs
To just keep calm and carry on
To seek no strings attached sex fun
To close your eyes when things are dark
To suppress tears with hollow laugh

You have a right to be who you are
To compensate with booze and cars
To take an alley drunken piss
To buy the next big gadget hit
To holiday in summer sun
To be back home where you belong
To join the ranks of the lost not found
To live your live in a compound

You have a right to live your life
But then again, so do I
Have my right to cause surprise
So let us both sleep well tonight
